The Garden of Persephone

In Greek mythology Persephone, the daughter of Demeter and Zeus, was the wife of Hades and the Queen of the Underworld. The myth of her abduction by Hades into the Underworld was frequently used to explain the cycle of the seasons. In a deal between her parents and Hades, Persephone spent Spring and Summer on the Earth and withdrew down into the Underworld with Hades after harvest. This enabled her  to acheive an additional function as the 'personification of vegetation' which shoots forth in spring and withdraws down into the earth during the less fruitful months of Autumn and Winter.

Persephone is widely believed to have maintained a garden in the Underworld.
