Southease is an East Sussex village located in the Ouse Valley, roughly midway between the county town of Lewes, to the north, and the port of Newhaven to the south.

On the 18th April 1942 the body of the writer Virginia Woolf was found at Asham Wharf on the east bank of the River Ouse, on the north side of Southease bridge.  She commited suicide by drowning on March 28th.

“Women have served all these centuries as looking-glasses possessing the magic and delicious power of reflecting the figure of man at twice its natural size.”
